Today, Dec. 12, marks 180 years since Catherine McAuley, Mary Ann Doyle, and Elizabeth Harley professed their vows as the first Religious Sisters of Mercy. Little did they know the impact these vows would have on the lives of millions of people. As described on the order’s website, let us “rejoice in the continued invitation to seek justice, to be compassionate, and to reflect mercy to the world.” You can read more about this from the Mercy Institute, which describes in detail the founding of the order. It is a worthwhile read on this special anniversary.
Do you have memories of Sisters of Mercy from your time on campus? We would love to hear them! Just leave a comment on this post, and we’ll do our best to make sure they get passed along!
